About Us
Phlebotomy
comes from the Greek word “phlebos”, meaning veins, and “tome”, meaning
incision. It is the surgical opening or puncture of a vein in order to withdraw
blood.
Phlebotomists today have the everyday pressure of
dealing with patients of all different sorts. From newborns to the elderly,
there is still the same protocol to be taken to ensure the phlebotomists and
patients safety is secure.
Everyone has a dream, that’s destined for greatness. My entire life I have always felt a need and desire to give more to others and to be more myself. I have always wanted to make a difference in the world somehow, someway. I felt like becoming a doctor would give me that opportunity I have been looking for in a way where I can help others. I have always had a pull on my heart and an interest for the medical field. I cannot remember a time in my life in which I was not fascinated with medicine and body mechanics. When I first watched Greys Anatomy, I fell in love with the medical environment. I saw how the actors played the roles of the doctors and how they all worked together to help make life for patients normal. I knew I wanted to become a doctor and hopefully one day own my own dermatology practice.

Deciding what I could do as a part time job while I attend full time college was the question that arose my junior year in high school. I was always scared to get my blood drawn and then all of a sudden my mom suggested it might be a good way to earn money while I go to school. Terrified, I agreed and started taking pre-requisite courses that would allow me to enroll into the phlebotomy program. Once I finished with my requirements, I enrolled into the program as a dual enrollment student and started taking lab and theory my first semester of my senior year in high school. The lab part of the class was very intimidating for me because we as students had to draw each others blood. Our professors were extremely hard on us, aiming for perfection. But in the end it all paid off because now all of us have jobs as phlebotomists or in the medical field. People respect those who are hard working and know how to do their job. Those who may possibly have the lives of others in their hands should always be properly trained and equipped for anything. That is why I believe medical school is so tough to get into or even through, because they only want the best of the best doctors taking care of patients in the real world. They want to ensure that everyone is properly trained and knows how to do their job well.
